A mature and handsome way of drawing men.The story itself - was pure trash. It felt like a 12-year old (a very perverted 12-year old) had written it.It was also not really a backstory of Shinohara - a mere episode spanning 4 days of his first case as a police officer fresh from the academy.There was nothing new you learned about him, his personality felt flat and interchangeable, and his thoughts and feelings were barely described.What I liked about In These Words, apart from the drawing style, was the psychology of the story, the verbal exchanges between Shinohara and Katsuya. They were both intruiging characters.All of that was missing in Maybe Someday, unfortunately.Despite all the logical flaws in the thin plot, I believe it could have still become an enjoyable read if more effort would have been put in it's literary quality and depth of character.But like this, it's only two stars. One for the accomplishment of getting a book published, and one for the high quality drawings. Was kommt dabei heraus, wenn sich ein Kรผnstler von einem anderen etwas zum Geburtstag wรผnscht? Genau, eine Geschichte, die so gut ist, dass sie sogar verรถffentlich wird. TogaQ hatte sich zum Geburtstag eine Erzรคhlung mit Shinohara in der Hauptrolle (und als Uke) gewรผnscht. Die Manga-Autorin Kichiku Neko, die zusammen mit TagaQ auch an "In these words" arbeitet, schrieb diese Geschichte erst widerwillig. Weil sie die Rollenverteilung nicht gerne tauscht…Herausgekommen ist eine lesenswerte Vorgeschichte in ca. 80 Seiten, die sich sehr gut und flรผssig liest. Sie ist nicht ganz so spannend, wie der Romanteil aus "In these words" und man sollte nicht unbedingt die letzten Seiten aufschlagen, weil eins der Bilder im hinteren Teil, total spoilert!Hierzu gibt es zu sagen, dass dieses Werk nicht wie die anderen "In these words" Werke in japanischer sondern in westlicher Leserichtung zu lesen ist. Was sicher damit zu tun hat, dass es keinen Manga-Anteil in dem Buch gibt. Meine Hรคnde hatte sich nach dem vielen Lesen von Mangas so sehr daran gewรถhnt, von rechts nach links zu lesen, dass es zum Anfang komisch war.Es gibt insgesamt 15 Illustrationen im typischen Stil, den wir aus den Werken kennen. Zwei davon wurden noch auf Drucken verรถffentlicht, die in blau/silber Metall-Optik strahlen (in der ersten Ausgabe enthalten). Eine nette Idee solche Drucke als Extra hinzuzufรผgen, aber ich finde die anderen Farbdrucke dennoch schรถner und hรคtte die Bilder lieber in Farbe gesehen.Mir hat die Geschichte zu Shinohara sehr gut gefallen und sie hat mir den Charakter nรคher gebracht. Ich bin jetzt auch dadurch der positiven Stimmung, dass Shinohara seinen Freund, nach dem was in "In these words" Band 1-3 passiert ist, besser verstehen und unterstรผtzen kann. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, wie es im vierten Teil der Hauptgeschichte weiter geht.
